This RP Journal is for the rp
L is, simply put, the greatest detective in the world. He is an orphan and he was, after showing some incredible intellectual ability, taken to a place called Wammy’s House—an orphanage, yes, but one funded by inventor Quillsh Wammy, who goes under the alias Watari and is L’s right hand man. This orphanage was for gifted children and they were provided with accelerated schoolwork. Their goals: to become to next L. However, it is never stated whether the L from the manga (and now anime series) is the first L or if there were ones before him. They call it ‘the Legacy of L’ to the younger successors, Near and Mello, who come along later in the story. (It should be noted that these two, when at Wammy’s House, where always in competition for L’s eventual succession. As such, as Near was at the top of every class and Mello was always second, Mello doesn’t like him. So they do not work together when they appear in the story. In fact, Mello leaves Wammy’s House upon the news of L’s death and uses his brilliant skills for other means and has an obsession with chocolate but eventually things play out and they inadvertently end up working together.)
The story revolving around Death Note is a character named Light Yagami who, by chance, acquires the Death Note when a roguish, but quirky, Shinigami (death god), Ryuuk dropped it into the human world on purpose because he was bored. He bound to Light, because Light picked up the Note.
Now. The thing about the Death Note is that whomever’s name is written in it will die. By default, it’s of a heart attack, however, you can write in other notes and get very detailed about someone’s death—you can make it easy or make them suffer.
Light is an ace student, bored and when he acquires this power he suddenly decides that he will use the Note because no one else should and starts murdering criminals and experimenting the powers of the Note on them. He’s always several steps ahead of the game and is determined to become a God of the new world.
What he didn’t count on was this mysterious L. None have ever seen his face or knows his real name before he began the investigation of who was committing these mass murders.
From nearly the very beginning, he suspected Light Yagami but he had no evidence and no one else in his tiny group of the task force that he was forced to acquire believed such a thing (probably what contributed to that was the fact that Light was the son of Soichiro Yagami, the Head of the Investigation Department in the NPA and he was a good, fair person—they expected Light, with his perfect grades and charming demeanor, to be the same (to bad they didn’t know that Light is an incredible actor and can on charm to tears in a matter of seconds) and he had no idea how Light was committing these murders.
The appearance of the second Kira (the nickname on the streets for Light and his work), however, spreads some light on the matter. A girl named Misa Amane, a fashion idol, actress, a model and not very bright. But she is absolutely devoted to Light and made the Eye Trade with her Shinigami, Rem, so that she could see a person’s name—whereas Light needs a name and a face to kill. So Misa Amane being devoted to him was a perfect tool for him to use.
Amane’s appearance—she foolishly mentioned the Shinigami and the Eye Trade in confiscated tapes that were suppose to be aired world-wide. L, suspecting Light, had invited him to join his little group of investigators. So, eventually, Light and Misa join up.
It doesn’t take long for L to put two and two together and have Misa arrested but Light comes up with a brilliant plan to save them both (not that he particular cares about Misa, although she is obsessed with him, but her eyes are useful).
In the end, Rem is forced to decide, all according to Light’s plan, whether Misa will die or she will. When a death god starts to care about a human and kills for them, it spells a Shinigami’s death. So that’s what Rem did.
She murdered L and Watari and then she, herself, died.
L is very quirky. He doesn’t sleep much and always has dark circles under his eyes. He is also very, very, very fond of candy, cakes, ice cream—you name it. If it’s sweet, he loves it.
Oh, yes, it should also be noted that L does not do well with other people. The only one he is associated with, before the forced formation of the taskforce, is Watari, who is the only one who can contact L. He is socially inept and does not typically talk to other people. He is untrusting—which should be a given, seeing the work he’s done—and getting close to someone like him would be 99% impossible. (Oh yeah, he likes to use percentages when he speaks, at times. [[[Although it should be noted that in the series, when he does, he's just rattling a number. When he says something and puts a percentage after it--he usually believes it already anyway. So said the writer of the manga.]]])
So that’s L in a nutshell—he’ll tell most to call him Ryuuzaki—he’s a genius, socially inept, loves candy, is quirky, is the greatest detective in the world…and eventually is murdered.
